  1. There are several therapies that may be used in addition to the standard cancer treatments. For example, a doctor may recommend immunotherapy, which spurs the body to create more white blood cells. Since white blood cells can attack and destroy cancerous cells, they play an important role in cancer eradication and prevention. Some cancers, such as breast cancer and prostate cancer, may call for hormone therapy. Doctors know that estrogen can cause breast cancer tumors to develop more quickly, so in certain cases, they may administer a drug like tamoxifen, which blocks estrogen from attaching to estrogen receptors in the breast.
