Though varicose veins and hemorrhoids may be treated surgically by a doctor, a number of essential oils may help treat some of their symptoms. Pain, inflammation and enlarged veins may be relieved with essential oils such as chamomile, cypress, frankincense, juniper berry, lavender and myrrh. Add a few drops of one of these ingredients into massage oil and gently massage your legs in upward strokes.
If the veins have reached the point where the skin breaks and ulcers form, you can make a compress of essential oils to help soothe the area. Create a mixture of:
- 3 drops of chamomile oil
- 3 drops of carrot seed oil
- 3 drops of lavender oil
- 1 cup cold water
- 1 teaspoon tincture of either calendula or St. John’s wort
Once you’ve mixed the solution, soak a soft cloth in it; wring out the cloth and place it over the infected area as often as needed. You can buy the essential oils and the tinctures at a health food store.
