How does backpack-ready solar power work?

  1. It's pretty simple, in practice. Small solar panels attached to the outside of the backpack collect up to four watts of power during one hour of exposure to the sun. That's enough to give a cell phone enough power to run for an hour and a half. A charge of 10 hours, meanwhile, provides up to 55 hours of energy. A lithium-ion battery pack inside the backpack stores this energy you collect. If the day is cloudy, an AC adapter inside the pack allows you to charge the battery from your car's AC adapter. You can choose a backpack with the cell phone adapter suited to your phone, and it will come with a USB plug too.
