  1. If a car's check engine light goes on it can mean transmission problems. If you have a new car, and you want to find out if the check engine light is on because of impending transmission trouble, you can buy a diagnostic scanner. Just plug the scanner in under the instrument panel on the driver's side, and it will detect which area of the car caused the check engine light to go on. If it turns out the check engine light went on because of transmission trouble, it's time to have a mechanic take a look.
