Under the banner of long term memory, we have episodic and declarative memory. Declarative memory deals with things you can declare that you know. For example, "grass is green" or "two times four is eight" are both instances of declarative memory. Episodic memories are remembered because of an event you experienced. On example of an episodic memory is if you say "I'm afraid of dogs because of the time I was bitten on the finger when I was 12 years old."
