What is the difference between static RAM and dynamic RAM?

  1. Static RAM is much faster than dynamic RAM because of its flip-flop technology. A memory cell flip-flop requires four or six transistors and some wiring, but unlike dynamic RAM, it doesn’t have to be refreshed. Static Ram with more parts takes up more space on a chip than dynamic RAM does, and since you get less memory per chip, that makes static RAM cost more than dynamic RAM.
