  1. Different types of race cars use different kinds of fuels. For example, NASCAR race cars use 110-octane leaded gasoline, whereas Indy race cars use methanol (CH3OH). Both types of fuel handle high compression; however methanol can be extinguished by water in case of a fire. On the other hand, top fuel dragsters and funny cars use nitromethane (CH3NO2), which is a liquid explosive, containing more than double the amount of energy of gasoline.
