  1. Grape skins, particularly the skins used in making red wines, contain resveratrol. Resveratrol is a compound that has been shown to increase the life spans of lab creatures such as yeast cells and mice. Scientists are still determining if the benefits of resveratrol extend to humans. It's possible that resveratrol activates a gene that slows the aging process, but this hypothesis isn't an excuse to guzzle a bottle of wine. To consume as much of the compound as the yeast cells and mice did, a person would have to drink several hundred bottles of red wine a day. Instead, researchers envision a day when a person could take an anti-aging pill chock-full of resveratrol.
