  1. Apart from the physical injury a child could endure as the victim of violence, there are a host of other problems that can surface throughout a child's life. Very young children -- infants and toddlers -- may become listless or unresponsive. Children old enough to walk and talk may become more aggressive and display behaviors such as bullying or cruelty to animals. Slightly older children may grow up with a distorted view of how men and women relate to one another. They may grow up to either continue the cycle of abuse or quietly endure abuse if they enter an unhealthy relationship. Children exposed to community violence may join a gang in an attempt to gain acceptance and security. They may also experiment with drugs and enter sexual relationships earlier than they would have in a more stable environment.
