  1. It can be difficult to determine if a job is "green" or not. Is a person who helps make steel for both wind turbines and gas-guzzling SUVs a green-collar worker? Does a lawyer representing an alternative-energy company have a green-collar job or a white-collar job? Green-collar jobs often straddle the line between white-collar and blue-collar jobs. Some examples of green-collar jobs include:

    • Designing environmentally friendly buildings
    • Retrofitting existing buildings to increase their energy efficiency
    • Producing biofuels
    • Recycling and composting
    • Installing solar panels
    • Designing and maintaining parks
    • Manufacturing products like hybrid cars that are environmentally friendly
    • Working on water conservation projects
    • Working on a sustainable farm
