  1. GPS phones communicate with the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites using a process called trilateration. To determine your location, your GPS phone must be able to find at least three GPS satellites in orbit and your position relative tothem. The receiverin your phone then draws spheres around each satellite and determines the point on the ground where those spheres intersect. That's your location.
