How do pirates board a ship?

  1. In many ways, piracy hasn't changed much over the years. Pirates still board ships using hooks and ropes, and they often attack ships at night. This gives them the advantage of surprise. Pirates climb on board the ship and overtake the crew - - sometimes the crew surrenders readily, but in case the crew puts up a fight, the pirates come prepared with many weapons. Historically, pirates would attack the crew member in charge of the wheel first, in an attempt to gain control of the ship. Old-time pirates used cannon-fire only if all else failed, because heavy arms could sink the ship before they managed to loot it.
