Google generates revenue in three ways, in addition to private investment and selling stock shares. Google partners with advertisers and merchants through Google Checkout, Google AdWords and Google AdSense. Google Checkout is a way for a user to enter a credit card number just one time to make future online purchases. The merchant the user is purchasing from must subscribe to Google Checkout in order for the transaction to take place.
Google AdWords places ads from companies alongside Google search results. Google AdSense is a kind of matchmaking service for businesses: It places ads from companies on third-party Web sites, and those sites receive a payment for each ad someone clicks on.
