In a 2006 survey conducted by polling research firm GfK NOP in the United Kingdom, a full 72 percent of respondents said they would not take a legal pill capable of making them happy without side effects. This poll also turned up evidence that the country is decidedly less happy compared to 50 years ago, when more than 50 percent of Britons considered themselves "very happy," as opposed to about 35 percent in 2006.
