  1. Who wouldn't want a few trusty nanobots with the Midas touch? Unfortunately, the ability to turn iron into gold (or any element into another element) requires a change at the subatomic level. All foreseeable nanotechnology operates at the molecular level, where the form of an element can be altered but not the element itself.
