  1. Some cultural anthropologists are eyeing postmodern society with suspicion. That's because many of them believe that while earlier economic eras like the Industrial Revolution placed a premium on male-dominant traits like strength, speed and stamina, postmodern society generally values characteristics like communication skills and social smarts -- areas where men sometimes fall behind women when it comes to the workplace. So as women gain more power in the marketplace, perhaps that means they're running the show now.
