  1. Normalcy is relative, but taking pride in watching someone accept your whopper of a lie might just prove that you're human. It takes talent and brain power to construct a different accounting of reality. You know that you trashed the love letters your girlfriend received from an old flame and felt savage joy by demolishing any trace of Mr. Perfect's memory. When she asks, however, you blame her puppy. Puppy is forgiven, and you still look good. But don't ask the puppy to cover for you next time you pull a Pinocchio. Animals can't fib. Lying is a distinctly human talent -- or fault.
