Isn't sleep just a chance for your body to catch a break?

You might think that sleep's function is to give a weary body a break, but that's not exactly true. Our bodies definitely need rest, but it hasn't been shown that sleep contributes anything to that process. The body rests when it's at rest; it can't tell the difference between sleeping and relaxing.
