  1. While we may imagine a future of cars powered by water, air or even garbage, there's a chance we'll still rely on fossil fuels. That's because the infrastructure we need to support a gasoline- or diesel-based vehicle fleet is already in place. To switch to another type of fuel will require dedication from politicians and consumers as well as billions of dollars to build a new infrastructure.
