  1. The doldrums are one of the five primary wind belts comprising the general circulatory system of the planet's atmosphere. Somewhat vaguely defined, these wind zones continuously migrate with the sun. The doldrums are generally located between 5 degrees latitude north and south, but they can extend as far as 18, depending on the season. Surface winds tend to be light in this area, and the weather is mostly hot, humid and wet.
