  1. It's a collection of measures of human physiology and behavior. Biometrics can refer to anything ranging from the size, shape and color of your iris to the way you type a word on a keyboard. We use biometric systems to identify people based upon some specific quality that is unique to that person. It's the same principle we use in fingerprinting -- but instead of attempting to determine a person's identity based upon a distinct feature, we're trying to authenticate identity. Ideally, a biometric authentication system makes identity theft impossible.
