Food security, in my mind, is probably the most important threat to security for all humans. Why do I say that? There are one billion people who go to bed hungry every night. That's today, with a population of seven billion, and we're running out of water and produce. Let's go to 40 years from now, and the population will be nine and a half billion. That's two and a half billion more than now. That's about a 40 percent increase.
So imagine society today, and as it's evolving billions of people not knowing where the next meal is coming from. If that is not a threat to our civilization, then what is? Not only are those billion people not having adequate food, they're often living in the same communities where there are people who have an excess supply of food.
One of the tragedies and facts of life is if you go to the developing world, you will find individuals who live in the same town, in the same city and sometimes the same village, where obesity and hunger coexist.

Food security is a concept that deals with people's access to sufficient food on a regular basis, as well as their ability to afford that food. A third part of the concept is that people also understand how to eat nutritious and balanced meals, as well as have access to clean water and proper sanitation. While these might seem like basic human necessities, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization, more than a billion people on the planet currently suffer under difficult conditions. Organizations like the World Food Programme work to combat the situation, delivering aid to people undergoing both emergency and chronic food crises.
