Paganism is the worship of many deities as opposed to the worship of a single god. All religions that are not Jewish, Christian or Muslim are considered pagan, including Hinduism, Confucianism and countless others. Paganism is thought to account for half of all the religions of the world. The term "pagan" is derived from the Latin words Pagini ("hearth") or Paganus ("home dweller"). Pagans were looked down on by city dwellers, but they weren't necessarily labeled as "bad". In the 15th century, after the ascendance of Christianity, fear of witchcraft and paganism spread, and paganists became associated with devil worship and evil spells.
