  1. The term "peak oil" indicates the height of global oil production before it drops off and never rallies. Think of it as a carafe filled to the brim with coffee. Now imagine pouring countless cups of coffee until the supply of java slows to a mere trickle. At this point, you have to severely tilt the carafe in order to get at the last drops. Peak oil represents that last full and flowing cup before the final decline sets in. In the case of oil, demand will continue to grow, but the reserves will continue to shrink.
