Wireless Gigabit Alliance (WiGig) is a group of technology companies that is working together to create a new high-speed wireless standard for home communication, entertainment and computing needs. It has the backing of Microsoft, Panasonic, Dell, Nokia and many others.
WiGig technology will allow home entertainment systems, home computers and other communication, computing and entertainment devices to be connected wirelessly within a single room. Although the band it uses will not offer a terribly wide coverage area (about 30 feet/9 meters maximum), WiGig will offer extremely fast connection speeds -- up to 10 times faster than WiFi.
