  1. The scientific process by which we can turn energy into matter is called pair production. It converts a photon, which is a unit of energy, into a pair of particles: one matter, one antimatter. The positron (antimatter) inevitably collides with an electron (matter), however, which reverses the process and illustrates the fine line between matter and energy.
