  1. While the majority of the Earth's ozone is trapped far out of our reach in the upper stratosphere, the chemical may also be produced by earthbound sources. Chemicals in car exhaust can react with sunlight to create low-altitude ozone that is harmful to humans. Some factories also use similar chemicals, pumping harmful levels of ozone into the air.
