Unfortunately, at this stage of solar-power car development, a number of factors limit availability of the cars on the market. For example, the cars can only run when they have a steady supply of sunlight. This means that on a cloudy day, at night or going through a tunnel, the car won't get a move on. The next challenge is developing a battery big enough to store the sun's energy but not too heavy for the car. Also, weight limitations on solar-powered car prototypes mean they only can transport one person at a time. Engineers are still working on the design of solar-powered cars, however, so it could be that in the future, commercially available ones will crowd the roads.
