Sigmund Freud is widely considered the father of psychology. This Viennese doctor concentrated his studies on neurology and treated patients with nervous disorders. By analyzing patients' conversations in a technique called free association, Freud could tap into their minds and determine the cause of their anxiety. Freud is perhaps best known for his theories about the Oedipus complex, dynamic unconscious, and id, ego and superego.
