Geothermal energy potential is all around us. Or under our feet, more precisely! Geothermal energy systems take the heat from the Earth itself and convert it into energy by digging deep wells and bringing up the underground hot water or steam. From there, plants can use it to heat buildings or generate electricity. Better still, geothermal plants, such as this one in Iceland, produce harmless vapor, instead of the soot that can spray forth from plants that burn fossil fuels to generate energy.
